Iraklis Varlamis is a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Telematics of HUA in the area of Data Management. He holds a Ph.D. from Athens University of Economics and Business, Greece, and an MSc in Information Systems Engineering from UMIST, UK. His research interests range from data mining and social network analytics to recommender systems for social media and real-world applications. He has more than 280 articles published in international journals and conferences, and more than 7500 citations to his work. He holds a patent from the USPTO and one from the Greek Patent Office for systems that analyze news articles and web documents. He is an IEEE member and a member of the ELLIS society. He is the scientific coordinator for HUA in several EU (H2020, ECSEL, REC) projects and has a leading role in national projects in collaboration with researchers from other HUA departments and other universities. He has been listed among the top 2% of most cited scientists globally in the field of AI, according to Stanford's list for 2023 and 2024.
Ο Ηρακλής Βαρλάμης είναι Καθηγητής στο Τμήμα Πληροφορικής και Τηλεματικής του Χαροκοπείου Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών (HUA), στον τομέα της Διαχείρισης Δεδομένων. Είναι κάτοχος διδακτορικού διπλώματος από το Οικονομικό Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών και μεταπτυχιακού τίτλου (MSc) στη Μηχανική Πληροφοριακών Συστημάτων από το UMIST, Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο.
Τα ερευνητικά του ενδιαφέροντα εκτείνονται από την εξόρυξη δεδομένων και την ανάλυση κοινωνικών δικτύων έως τα συστήματα συστάσεων για τα μέσα κοινωνικής δικτύωσης και εφαρμογές στον πραγματικό κόσμο. Έχει δημοσιεύσει περισσότερα από 280 άρθρα σε διεθνή επιστημονικά περιοδικά και συνέδρια, ενώ το έργο του έχει συγκεντρώσει περισσότερες από 7.500 αναφορές.
Κατέχει μία πατέντα από το Γραφείο Διπλωμάτων Ευρεσιτεχνίας των ΗΠΑ (USPTO) και μία από τον Οργανισμό Βιομηχανικής Ιδιοκτησίας της Ελλάδας για συστήματα που αναλύουν ειδησεογραφικά άρθρα και έγγραφα ιστού. Είναι μέλος του IEEE και της επιστημονικής κοινότητας ELLIS.
Είναι επιστημονικός συντονιστής του Χαροκοπείου Πανεπιστημίου σε αρκετά ευρωπαϊκά έργα (H2020, ECSEL, REC) και διαδραματίζει ηγετικό ρόλο σε εθνικά έργα σε συνεργασία με ερευνητές από άλλα τμήματα του Πανεπιστημίου και άλλα πανεπιστήμια. Έχει συμπεριληφθεί στο κορυφαίο 2% των επιστημόνων με τις περισσότερες αναφορές παγκοσμίως στον τομέα της Τεχνητής Νοημοσύνης, σύμφωνα με τη λίστα του Stanford για τα έτη 2023 και 2024.
